I have written this book about
The Caution Crew to teach safety
to young children. I have devised a format that is non-threatening to both
parents and children, yet direct enough to provide the intended safety
information. I believe the methodology and characters in the Caution Crew
are effective in delivering the message of safety and caution in a manner
that parents and educators can use, and children can understand.
My experiences with my own children were critical in the development
of the Caution Crew. I had long observed that not only did my youngest
son mimic my older son, but my older son would mimic the action and behaviors
of his older friends!
I drew the conclusion that almost any type of lesson or behavior
could be taught or learned this way by children. In that regard, I created
the Caution Crew children at such ages that they would be old enough for
the reading audience to connect with and emulate.
I don't believe safety
lessons should be forced on children, but rather chosen as a preferred
method of behavior because the readers have seen peer equivalent role models
acting in a responsible and safe manner.
May all our children
be safe.

As a crime
prevention specialist, I highly recommend it.
John C. Villines, CPS (john@safeyouth.com) from Georgia. www.safeyouth.com.
He says:
"This book is an excellent tool for educating children about personal safety.
Younger children can easily follow along as the story is read to them, and the
crime prevention message is very solid. The material is presented in a way
that empowers the child, as opposed to frightening them, and it has a
universal quality that tends to make it interesting and appealing to children
from a variety of cultures. As a certified Crime Prevention Specialist and a
member of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners, I am
very selective in the resources I recommend. However, I was so impressed with
this book that I recommend it without reservation to parents, teachers, or
crime prevention personnel working with young children."
